IYM welcomes both Captains and First Officers, recognizing the importance of both roles in the
management and operation of superyachts.
The mission of Italian Yacht Masters is to
create and promote a club of excellent Italian captains who will have the task and the honor of
being part of the association and representing its values, setting an example with their daily
work and impeccable behavior. Only candidates who share the
association's values,
possess great professional skills, and uphold high moral standards are eligible.
Membership in the association is reserved for those who meet strict criteria, ensuring the
excellence and reliability of its members. The main eligibility parameters to become a
member of IYM are the following
- Italian Nationality: The essential prerequisite for
a deep understanding of Italian maritime culture
- Certificate of Competence: An Italian Certificate
of Competence, or one issued by a signatory country of the IMO (White List) under the
provisions of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and
Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, in its most up-to-date version, is recognized without the
need for the Italian flag. This certificate must confirm a minimum qualification of Captain
above 500GT as per the STCW 2012 convention, rule II/2.
- Verifiable References: A series of verifiable
embarkations and references, rigorously checked for authenticity and relevance.
- Spotless Career: An impeccable professional
history, free from significant incidents or controversies.
- Understanding of Guidelines: Knowledge and
acceptance of the IYM association's guidelines, ensuring shared values and standards.
