Vera Mary, a great restoration work by Valdettaro

A restoration project lasting over 6 years involved the sailing yacht Vera Mary and features the Valdettaro shipyard in Le Grazie, Portovenere (SP), led by Ugo Vanelo. This is the 22-meter schooner from 1932, purchased at the time by King George V of England and gifted to Sir Phillip Humoke, the skipper of the royal yacht Britannia, a sailing master, and a dear friend of the King. Designers Marco Maggiani and Alessandro Paganini studied the layout, guidelines for balance and weight, the rudder, and the ship's appearance in the water. This led to the start of this masterful complete restoration. The only exception is the two engines, necessary to assist the captain in mooring maneuvers. Interiors were entrusted to the shipwrights Daniele Pollastri and Mimmo Tripodi: the cabins underwent a partial redesign in terms of volume, expanded through the redistribution of some technical compartments; the furnishings are original to the period.

With this prestigious restoration project, Valdettaro confirms its commitment to making the care of classic boats a mission, as well as the desire to engage with academic world in the area. Two students from the La Spezia branch of the University of Genoa, in fact, participated in the restoration project.

The launching of Vera Mary is scheduled for Friday, February 2nd, and we are all eagerly anticipating seeing this jewel return to navigating the waters.
